Hello Kitty

So, I have been wanting a kitty ever since Neil and I moved in to our house. We have been to the shelter about five times since we moved in and there was never a cat or kitten that we "connected" with. Neil really wanted a kitten over a cat, and there are rarely kittens at the shelter. On Sunday I suggested that we go to the shelter, and they had the cutest kittens! I think there were only two left that were not yet adopted. Without further ado, here is Everest.
Neil named him because he climbed up his arm all the way to his head. I thought it was a cute name, so here he is!

So I had my final critique for my "good wife" project. It went pretty well. Here is one of the final pictures, I've having problems uploading the other ones. I'll try later.

Plan ahead to make dinner for your husband

The good wife is back! Here are a couple more pictures. Enjoy!

Studio Final

I'm taking portraits for my studio final. The idea is to have the subjects personality show in the image. Here are my favorite images of the subjects that I have shot so far.

This is my friend Christin, I think she is really smart and she is finishing up school right now also. She looks super serious in the photo and I wouldn't say that is a personality trait of hers, but I love this image.

This is my friend Doug that I work with. If he isn't at work, he is playing video games. He's just a big kid.

Here is Cindy. I LOVE this picture, it is so her. She is always on her phone, and she is always smiling and acting silly. This just captures her perfectly.

Freshen up your makeup before your husband comes home from work.

Here is my latest attempt at my project. I am not as happy with these images, so I will probably re-shoot it.

The Good Wifes Guide

So I'm in my senior year of school and we have this class where we develop an idea and work on one project the entire semester. It's supposed to help us have one cohesive project that we could eventually submit to a gallery.
So I love Cindy Sherman's work. She does all self portraits that resemble film stills and is all about the "femme fatal" or damsel in distress. I was looking around on-line for some inspiration for my project and I came across this thing called "The Good Wife's Guide". It supposedly was written for a magazine in the 1950's about how a "good wife" should act. I found it to be quite comical. I think it is a hoax, but I believe that some of these ideas ring true to the era. For my project I have decided to illustrate these good wife points as self-portraits. I have decided to do them as self-portraits out of convenience mostly. I want the images to resemble ad's from the 1950's, with highly saturated colors, and cheesy poses and facial expressions. I did my first shoot last week, and boy are they funny!
Here is text of"The Guide"
And a couple of my funny photos!

  • Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal ready on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that you have be thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they get home and the prospect of a good meal is part of the warm welcome needed.
  • Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.
  • Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.
  • Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives. Run a dustcloth over the tables.
  • During the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering to his comfort will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.
  • Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the washer, dryer or vacuum. Encourage the children to be quiet.
  • Be happy to see him.
  • Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.
  • Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first - remember, his topics of conversation are more important than yours.
  • Don't greet him with complaints and problems.
  • Don't complain if he's late for dinner or even if he stays out all night. Count this as minor compared to what he might have gone through at work.
  • Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or lie him down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.
  • Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing and pleasant voice.
  • Don't ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to question him.
  • A good wife always knows her place.

Buckingham Fountain

I am in a photojournalism class and sometimes we go outside during class to take pictures. We went by Buckingham Fountain the other day and I got some good shots. It looks so pretty at night with all of the lights. =)

Bekah

So I've been really bad about the whole blogging thing. I'm going to try and post more often. Here is my adorable goddaughter Bekah. Over the summer she was over and wanted to play outside even though it was really hot. I took her out in our backyard with my camera hoping that I could get some pictures of her. She saw my camera and said to me "I like your camera. Are you going to take pictures of me?" and I said "Yes, I would love to!" then she took me around the backyard posing for me. It was great! She was such a good sport!
